Unclogging kitchen sink – A sink filled with water which will not drain is an annoying, but relatively easy problem to solve. The blockage may be caused by an accumulation of fat or waste that has washed down the drain, or anything that has fallen down the drain and blocked pipe. You have two access points – one is the plug hole, the other is the U-shaped trap under the sink. Finding the blockage is a process of elimination.

Allow the water in the sink for now, since the weight of water helps to push the block down if you find the problem. If the water is uncomfortably hot, wear rubber gloves or add some cold water. Place one hand over the overflow hole in the unclogging kitchen sink or use a damp cloth. This prevents air escape during the process and keep the pressure using suction. Place your other hand palm down the plug hole and push firmly against it, and then remove your hand quickly. This creates a suction effect and could loosen the blockage. If not, the process is repeated five or six times.

Use stronger suction by means of a washing piston. Cover the overflow hole again with one hand, or a damp cloth and place the unclogging kitchen sink plunger directly over the plug hole. Push down firmly to create suction, as you may feel by moving the plunger a bit. Value puffs will mean that the cup piston is not moving. Pump plunger over the plug hole and pull it up firmly away from the plug hole. If the water is still not drain, repeat the process with the piston five or six times. If this does not work, look further down the waste pipe.

Remove as much water out of the sink as possible, using a small pan or a pot. Place a bucket under the trap of the U-shaped drain pipe under the sink to catch water when the trap is opened. The screw collar by means of a wrench, if it is tight, and allowing water to drain from the trap into the bucket. Check if the sink is during the remaining water. If not, insert a plastic coated wire to check for blockages on each side of the trap. Remove waste, if possible, or loosen it and turn on the tap to wash it out of the tube into the unclogging kitchen sink. Do not flush waste down the toilet, as it can cause a blockage further down the drainpipe – instead, wrap in paper and discard in the trash.
